On to Doctor #3

I started my 1st injectible cycle with my 2nd RE. I have questioned in my mind a few things he has told me or had me do. He wound up cancelling our cycle and said some pretty harsh, rude things so we have decided to move on to doctor #3. I am seeing my new RE this Thursday, so I wanted to jot down some thoughts about this past cycle so I can have some questions ready for my new doctor for our consultation.

*I was told I would take Menopur, yet I had heard this is not the med of choice for women with PCOS. That is my 1st question. Also I was told to take the injection subcutaneous in the stomach, yet I read on some websites that it should be taken intramuscularly?

*Baseline u/s on CD2 (cycle day 2) - got the OK to start injectibles

*Started injectibles (Menopur 150iu) on CD6 (Here's my 2nd question - why not CD3 like everybody else I had read about?) I asked him why CD6 and he said it was do lower the chance of multiples.

*Did 4 days of injectibles and had my 1st u/s on CD10. U/S revealed no follie growth - largest follie was 8mm. RE suggested cancelling cycle now (question #3, why willing to cancel so early?) or try 3 more days of injectibles at same strength and come back at CD13 for 2nd u/s. He said he could not up my dosage in the middle of a cycle b/c my egg quality would diminish (but that he could only lower dosage) and that I must start at a higher dosage next cycle. (I question that as well - I have heard of plenty of women upping dosage in the middle of a cycle) He said the only way he would not cancel my cycle on CD13 is if I had a 16mm follie. He said this because if we continued on the meds past then, the egg would be no good. (Again I question that b/c I've seen women who have done injections for a lot more than 7 days) He said it appeared I was "resistant" to the meds and I have the ovaries of a woman in her late 30s. I just turned 30 in November! We decided to take our chances and do 3 more days of injections.

*After 7 days of injections, U/S yesterday on CD13 revealed largest follie 8.5mm. RE said we would have to cancel b/c I was not responding to the meds. He said I should take a month's worth of BCP (why this vs. 10 days of progesterone pill like I have always taken in the past to induce AF?) and then start at a higher dosage of the same injectible (Menopur). He also chose to tell me that I may never develop eggs. Great, that's exactly what I needed to hear at that point. I asked him if there were any other options for meds out there or a mixture of meds that might get a response? He said no, that all injectibles are practically the same and Menopur is the best one for me and the cheapest for me. I asked him why if I have PCOS would I do an injectible with both FSH & LH instead of one with just FSH? He said he has been doing this for 20 years and I am on the best med for my situation.

So my husband and I left the appt upset, angry, confused and screamed and cried the whole way home. Needless to say, we have decided to switch REs.

Well all during this cycle, I have randomly taken my temp b/c I was always an avid temper and had a hard time quitting cold turkey when this RE told me I should stop with this 1st injectible cycle. I'm like an addict, I know. So anyways, on CD12 my temp was 97.20, on CD13 my temp was 97.55 and today on CD14 my temp shot up to 97.90. According to my temps, it looks as though I might have ovulated!! How on earth is this possible if on CD10 the largest follie I had was 8mm and on CD13 the largest follie I had was 8.5mm? Could the u/s have been wrong? Could I have had a miracle occur and an egg develop sometime between CD10 and CD12 and then release before my u/s on CD13?

Then on CD15 it went down to 97.45 and then shot back up CD16 to 98.20 and CD17 to 98.13. CD17 was this past Friday and that day I also noticed some brown spotting and then on Saturday CD18 some red light bleeding which turned back to brown spotting on Sunday CD19. Today on Monday CD20, no more bleeding or spotting and my temp went back down to 97.23. I am absolutely baffled as to why I would have mid-cycle spotting and bleeding.

I'm not sure I completely understand everything he did. I am so confused by all of this and now after the fact, all the red flags are waving at me telling me I should have questioned all this in the beginning. Hopefully my new RE can give me some answers and help us figure out what to do next. I'm hoping he tells me that my old RE did many things wrong and that's why I didn't respond to the Menopur.
